There is no big secret about fasting juice diets or is there?!

Juice fasting is an advanced method of detoxification that speeds the elimination of toxins from the body. Generally done over 3 to 5 days straight. Special kits are available from pharmancies.

Juice Fasting for Weight Loss, Juice Fasting for Stubborn Fat: To see a person drop 30-to-40 pounds in a 30-day in some fasting hard core diet plans.

What I recommend is a ONE day a week Juice only plan. This means one day a week you are not eating your usual 2000 plus calories, so the body must find another source of energy by burning of fat stores. Why one day? well its easy to do. You can do it in a weekend, perferrably on a Saturday, because your not working and Sunday you can goi back to eating normally before starting work. However you can pick your juice only day to suit your life. This web site is to give you some ideas why and how to being your juice diet and provide some references to more information.

You want to choose the right kinds of fruit and vegetable juices. Some juice can have side effects and bad health properties. A careful mix of juices needs to be selected. Just having lemon juice daily over a long period could damage your liver. Make sure to drink plenty of water to flush out the kidneys and toxins.

The Diet Plan

What I recommend you buy for preparation.

Fruits: Oranges, Grapefriut, Lime, Red Grapes, Blue Berries, Black Berries, Apples , Watermelon, Kiwi Fruit.

Vegies: Celery, Baby Carrots

The Recipe

Although the pulp is nice, being juice only you should strain the pulp out and leave the juice mix only. A teaspoon or so of pulp would be ok, and extra fibre, But personally does it really matter if its a juice smoothy rather then just juice? I dont know, but I say a smoothy is much nicer with some ingredients then with others. Example, Orange juice is nicer then Orange pulp, although some pulp in orange juice is nice I think. Orange juice is a good hunger suppressor and drinking glass of water often will fill the stomach making you more full and less hungry. Water has ZERO calories, so drink as much as you like diring the day, every couple of hours. You will go a toilet alot more frequently as expected, but this is good as water will flush out the kidneys and toxins.

A typical juice glass to use would be a large glass (12 oz or more). You can have really as much juice as you like up to 2 or 3 glasses.

Morning:

Mix baby carrots. You will probably need a few of these to get enough juice

add some pure water to the mix and a small stalk of celery. If you suffer hugh blood pressure then you should reduce the carrot juice volume with more water. Since its only one day, it shouldnt have much of a negative affect. Carrot juice is naturally sweet.

Afternoon:

Mix some orange juice, with a squeeze of some lime or lemon juice.

alternatively, and not on medication, you can have grapefruit juice

Dinner:

Mix red grapes with half water melon and a handful of blue berries.

Again make this all pulp rather then juice. But blend it lots to make it fine. Thats my preference anyhow!

Optional Extras:

Kiwifruit, Blackberry, Blueberry mixed with watermelon. Experiement yourself what mix you like. If need a second drink try some other juice mix.

Orange juice if your're too hungry to suppress it. Use when needed.

A Good Introduction to Fasting but Lacks Recipes
"Juice Fasting & Detoxification" is a good introduction to the idea of fasting. It is however not a good source for fruit and vegetable juice recipes. When I purchased this book I expected it to have lots of recipes and perhaps a section detailing exactly what I was supposed to drink, when and where. This book is far more vague, yet there is a lot of good information about what to expect when fasting. Steven Meyerowitz explains the positive and negative aspects of a good fast. You may experience negative symptoms like a headache or even get a fever. However, the good results and detoxification is worth the experience.

What I found confusing about this book is that after reading it I had no idea how much juice I should be drinking each day. First Steven Meyerowitz says you should think of juices as your regular meals (I assume that means three times a day) and then he says one or two glasses of juice is sufficient per day. While discussing "Breatharianism" he doesn't indicate how many days the body can survive without water and only air. I assume such a drastic fast is only for one day.

At the heart of "Juice Fasting & Detoxification" this is really about liquitarianism. If you are interested in a liquitarian fast then this book may provide helpful information about how to go about it - but there are still no recipes, just ideas for "combinations." When listing the ingredients for various combinations the author says "2 Spinach." Does this mean two cups of spinach or two ounces? I assume the latter because the quantity of juice you are supposed to end up with is 12 ounces. Writing out clear recipes would have been more helpful than just stating the best combinations of fruits or vegetables.

The good thing about this book is that it lets you know what you are getting yourself into by doing a fast. It also gives excellent advice on how to end a fast. You can't just go back to eating normally the next day or you will have some unwelcome symptoms which may include death. The author explains why this is unlikely but I took his advice seriously on this matter. While the author states that some people can fast as long as 75 days (seems a bit long to me), he seems to encourage the reader to at least try a one-day fast per week.

While fasting is the main idea of the book the author also encourages the reader to do a colon cleanse, go for a massage, take warm baths, drink herb teas, take deep breaths, drink water (although no specific amount is given beyond advice to drink one glass per hour - I'd do more research on that before taking that advice as I've heard you can drink too much water), do yoga and try meditation.

Most of the books I've read on juicing say that you can't keep juice fresh and that you should drink it immediately. This book gave some ideas for how you can store juice effectively in a thermos. This is helpful for people who are fasting and still need to go to work. Ideally you should take a week off and go to a spa but if that is not possible then this book gives you an introduction to fasting. I just wouldn't make this my only book to read on juicing or fasting. After reading this book I did not have a confident feeling and will read other books before I try a fast.

great book about juicing
this book gives you a guide to a healthy life style through juicing. It has a lot of good vegetable recipes. My husband has a lot of health issues and this book has been very helpful with what to juice and how to juice. Great book

This is a well written book with excellent information. I wish everyone could read it and put the knowledge to work even though most of us do not have diabetes. I have recommended it to many of my friends.

Not what I expected
I was expecting more on detoxing and colon cleansing. There are some good recipes and good health information, but I probably should have gotten a book on Juicing for detox and cleansing as I have fibromyalgia. The book is set up as a guide to use certain recipes for specific conditions. It does not list Fibromyalgia and I know that people with FMS are supposed to avoid certain things, like night shade vegetables: white potatoes, eggplant and a whole list of other things. This is my first book on juicing. I'm sure it will come in handy, but it probably won't be my only source. I need to find one that addresses detoxing and cleansing.

need more information
This book was very informative in the health aspect. Ann Wigmoore made the medicinal qualities of wheatgrass very easy to follow, but the actually growing process was very brief. I was looking to start growing wheatgrass in my kitchen. I started small batches here and there. I ran in to different problem's with all of them. The book was very brief in the sense that it did not touch on problem solving. There is a number in the back of the book you can call of you run into problems growing. Well I called twice in a matter of two week's, and did not recieve a call back. Overall this book is very useful if your just looking to learn the health benifit's of wheatgrass, but buy a more informative book if you are interested in growing it yourself. A process you should consider. It is inexpensive, and so important to one's health.
